Our attitude in the time of suffering
Before you begin, read: Philippians 1:27, 28
. Above all else, you must live in a way that brings honor to the good news about Christ. Then, whether I visit you or not, I will hear that all of you think alike. I will know that you are working together and that you are struggling side by side to get others to believe the good news.
. Be brave when you face your enemies. Your courage will show them that they are going to be destroyed, and it will show you that you will be saved. God will make all of this happen,

. Paul endured persecution with humility. He began his letter by saying he was a servant. As one willing to serve others, Paul was willing to serve as an example of suffering with a humble heart.
. Suffering was not Paul’s focus because he chose joy rather than fear. Paul rejoiced because Christ was preached to so many people.
. While others were concerned about Paul’s imprisonment might be, Paul was concerned about his spiritual health. He knew that circumstances could turn out for spiritual deliverance. Nothing could take away Paul’s dream of seeing God’s will worked out in the lives of others.
. Fear was defeated not only in Paul’s life, but also in the lives of others. Because of him the brothers in the Lord were encouraged to speak the word of God more courageously and fearlessly. Continual rejoicing had triumphed.

3. How was suffering in my life used for God’s glory?
4. When I think of past suffering, do I think more of the suffering or the way in which God worked through the circumstances?
5. What should my attitude be when I suffer?
